Our guests this morning are Cristan Higa of Beach Cities Health District and Dr. Barbara Carnes of Kaiser Permanente South Bay and they’ll be participating this weekend at the Health & Fitness Expo which is part of the Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10K.

Cristan Higa started at Beach Cities Health District in 2011.  She is responsible for internal and external communications and marketing, the BCHD website, social media, and brand management. Cristan manages all press relations, media contacts, and promotional events. She has a B.A. in business from the University of Oregon.

Barbara Carnes is the area medical director of the Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center. She serves as chief of staff for the physician medical group and as a member of the medical center administrative team. Barbara developed and implemented Kaiser Permanente's Reach Out & Read, a pediatric literacy program; helped found our local Kaiser Permanente Farmers' Market; and previously served on the local Board of the Southern California chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She earned her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine. She has been a Kaiser Permanente physician since 1989 and is board certified in pediatrics.  Barbara lives in the South Bay with her husband and two children and enjoys living close to the beach and taking advantage of opportunities for a healthy, active lifestyle.

This morning, we’re going to learn what attendees can expect at this year’s Health & Fitness Expo and whether or not our guests will be running in the 10K.
