The Death of a Drum Major: Why Is Hazing Still Prevalent?

With the recent death of a FAMU drum major, the issue of hazing has been put back in the national spotlight.  Over the years there have been many reports of hazing whether it was through fraternities and sororities, athletic organizations, bands, and so forth.  But the question remains, why is hazing such a prevalent activity?
