Is the Criticism of Tyler Perry's casting of Kim K. Fair?

The criticism of Tyler Perry's casting of Kim Kardashian in his latest film, 'The Marriage Counselor', came to a head this week when Tyler finally decided to address the controversy.  Instead of stopping the criticism he appeared to only have exacerbated the situation.  

So is this criticism of Tyler Perry fair or is his fanbase missing the point?  Is it wrong for Tyler to seek after mainstream money or did he go about the entire thing all wrong?
