Do Black Folks Know What They Want From a TV Show or Movie?

Recently, VH1 debuted a Queen Latifah produced show call 'Single Ladies' which centers around the lives of three friends.  After the series debut, the internet instantly was ablaze with comments that were very critical of the show.  Even the Washington Post got in on the bandwagon of criticism.

So the question is, "Do black folks know what they want when it comes to television shows and movies?"  We are very critical of the likes of Tyler Perry, but yet we will not go out and support a film like 'Akeelah and the Bee' or the 'Great Debaters'.
