Today on The Caregiver Dave Celebrity Segment, Dave and Neil will interview Director Christopher Zaluski of Theirs Is The Kingdom.

Theirs is the Kingdom - a 60 min documentary that overlaps poverty with portraiture - will be released to home entertainment on AppleTV, Google Play  and most major streaming platforms beginning May 1. It also will be airing on PBS World stations for the coming months.

Christopher Holt was commissioned to paint a contemporary fresco in a small Asheville, NC church. Frescos are incredibly rare due to the incredible challenge to paint in this method. But instead of immortalizing saints, heroes, and aristocracy, this mural shares the faces of local people who are on the fringes of society - the homeless, the addicts, the marginalized, the mentally ill.

“Affirming sacred worth, restoring human dignity, and sabotaging the shame of poverty, the Haywood Street fresco announces, in plaster and pigment, that you matter.” —The Rev. Brian Combs, Haywood Street congregation

Jeanette, a formerly homeless member of the church, says it all. When seeing her portrait hanging in an art gallery, she said simply, “I feel important.”
