In this dark mob world variation of O'Henry's THE RANSOM OF RED CHIEF, Roy Scheider and Adam Baldwin portray hitmen charged with transporting a 9 yr. old federal witness 300 miles to their superiors in Houston. When the boy realizes the two killers don't like (let alone trust) one another, he sets in motion a psychological game to turn them against themselves. After successess with his scripts to THE HITCHER and NEAR DARK, Eric Red made his directorial debut with this "road trip from hell" which would go on to influence later dialog-heavy "mob chic" films such as RESERVOIR DOGS, TRUE ROMANCE and THINGS TO DO IN DENVER WHEN YOU'RE DEAD.
