Barbara Hines is a famed immigration attorney and a clinical law professor at the University of Texas at Austin, who has been involved in landmark litigation defending the constitutional and statutory rights of immigrants. In 2000, Texas Lawyer Magazine named her one of 100 Texas “Legal Legends” of the 20th century. She and her students gained international notice for their work in drawing attention to the T. Don Hutto family detention center in Taylor, TX, where children were held in prison-like conditions -- leading to a successful ACLU lawsuit. In the early 70s, Barbara Hines was active in the women’s movement and the movement against the War in Vietnam and was a contributor to Austin’s underground newspaper, The Rag. We discuss all this, and the issue of immigration reform in America today.Host and producer: Thorne Dreyer. Engineer and co-producer: Tracey Schulz. http://www.archive.org/details/RagRadio2010-08-24
