That Martin O’Malley machine: You gotta give it to them! I mean, the man is masterful when it comes to politics. Just take a look at the packaging of Anthony Brown: Pure brilliance!

The goal, no doubt, is to paint Anthony Brown as relevant as ever to blacks but without being too specific. You want to send a signal without ruffling any feathers – build empathy and show concern without being perceived as too close to the fire.

It’s all about the visuals, baby! Forget about the facts. Experts know that politics is all about defining one’s opponent before one’s opponent does the same to you: Smoke and mirrors! And right now, one could conclude that this playbook is calling all the right plays for a Brown victory in the Maryland Democratic Primary on June 24, 2014.

Let the TV commercials do the talking and one essentially walks away with the impression that Anthony Brown is cool with black kids and ultimately their parents, the voters. You’re left with the notion that Brown even adopts black kids. So sure, he must love them, too. Right?

Honestly, I’m not too sure about this.
