Do you believe? 

Like many other people, I believe in literal fairies, elves, and other "myths". Many do believe that there is at least a grain of truth in the old legends, myths, and fairy tales.

So if you believe in this, it is just one more step to also believe in Otherkin. Otherkin believe they are themselves fairies, elves, vampires, weres, or other creatures of legend.

Some believe they are only "of fey blood". Many are the tales of fey folk (I use fey as a general term for the magical and mythological races) becoming involved with humans. Sometimes, as in the changeling stories, they steal a human child and leave a fey child in his or her place. In other stories, a fey falls in love with a human, or

visa versa, and a child is born who is special. Some Otherkin believe that they are a changeling, or a person with fey blood.

There are also Otherkins who recall memories of being one of the fey races in a past life. They may have clear memories, or just hints and wisps like so many of us do. Some of them have feelings akin to the phantom limb, but for parts such as tails and wings that we don't associate with humans.
