Tonight we are in for a treat! Lisa Pasbjerg, executive coach and leadership development expert, interviews Dr. David Canter, regarded by those in the local community and in his field as an exceptional leader, about his experiences, thoughts and the wisdom learned along the way from his varied and notable career path. Most  well known for his 24 year career in the pharmaceutical industry, David, a native of England, started out as a surgeon for the National Health Service after graduating from the University in Liverpool and Cambridge.  His work in the pharmaceutical industry began in clinical research in Europe and ended as Senior Vice President to Pfizer Global Research and Development and the Director of the Michigan Laboratories in Ann Arbor and Kalamazoo.

In 2007, when Pfizer announced the closure of the Ann Arbor research facility as part of a series of extensive cuts in its operations, David earned great respect from the employees and the community as he handled the process of closing the entire facility of a very major employer in this region.

Dr. Canter made a deliberate choice to stay in the community, and to explore opportunities to re-design his career from the vantage point provided by both the local resources, and his rich and varied background. Subsequent to several other roles, in July 2010 David was appointed the Executive Director of the University of Michigan's North Campus Research Complex, with a goal of developing the site into a thriving community of academic and private company research, helping to grow the research capacity of the University as well as the region's economy. Tune in and learn  as we replay this interview and David shares with us his journey, his deep knowledge, and, his abiding curiosity about opportunities and possibilities borne from his handling of both devastating failures and brilliant successes.
