Join us as Dr. Scott Imlay, Director of Research and Development at Tecplot, Inc. discusses a paper he presented recently at the International Conference on CFD in Hawaii.
The paper - Generalized Box-Plot for Analysis of Unsteady CFD Solutions
Increased computer performance has made it possible to use Computational Fluid Dynamics to create what Dr. Imlay calls a 'virtual wind tunnel.' With this, engineers can estimate the aerodynamic properties of their designs throughout it's operating envelope. The output of this process is a performance database of CFD meta-data. But this is where the gap is. This data alone isn't enough to discover root causes of anomalies in the data and figure out design changes that would fix it. Dr. Imlay's paper presents a new technique for getting those answers.
