Gina Calanni: is a native Texan, multi-published author, and working mother of three school-aged boys, who is running to serve Texas House District 132 in Austin. As a single mom whose kids attend Katy ISD schools, Gina is running to ensure quality public education and access to affordable healthcare for Texas families.

Gina understands firsthand the challenges facing everyday Texans. As an undergraduate at UT-Arlington, she had to withdraw just a semester before graduation after her father's death. After having her first son, she went back to school and graduated with honors from St. Edward's University, while working full-time as a paralegal for the Travis County Attorney's Office.

Jan McDowell

I bring a background of varied experiences to this race. As a CPA, I have the understanding to study and analyze the financial issues that are so important to the responsible conduct of our government.

Atypically, though, my degree was not in accounting, but rather in journalism/public relations. I am therefore a somewhat rare breed that can both “do numbers” and also communicate effectively.

I have always had a positive and inclusive attitude toward life. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, my free time as a high school student was spent in a group called Sing-Out Dallas. That was a group of kids from all across the area that performed the music of Up With People! The chorus of their signature song includes this idea that is right on: “If more people were for people, all people everywhere…”
