Steven W. Miller is a family man, community leader, former elected official, and a business owner of a tax practice for over 30 years. Steve, as he is often called, is a Florida son, growing up in Winter Haven, FL. He is a graduate of Florida State University and was an IRS Collection Officer for eight years. As a proud father of four adult children, Angel, Brittany, Paul and Michael, Steve understands the importance of how education and being a provider are essential to the growth of well-being of children and the family. Steve has been involved in the community for a long time. As a City Commissioner, he understood the importance of economic development in the community. As a result, he founded the Black College Reunion. There were a number of attempts to capture the contributions of Dr. Bethune in the Midtown area. Under his leadership he led the successful effort to rename Second Avenue, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd. As a City Commissioner during the reconstruction of the International Speedway Blvd. high-rise bridge, he single-handedly secured the land from Florida Department of Transportation on Beach Street that is now the home of the News-Journal Performing Arts Center. Further, because of Steve’s understanding of the importance of business ownership, he championed the successful effort to allow residents to have home-based occupation licenses. Encouraging our citizens to take responsibility to transform the community Steve takes very seriously. He is engaged as a member of the Midtown Redevelopment Board and the newly formed Leisure Services Board where he is the chairman.
