A Chat in the Garden w. Monique A.J. Smith

Patricia Porter is the former MEAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations of approximately a decade before taking on the new role as Director of Corporate Partnerships at Spectra located on the campus of Virginia State University.

While as MEAC, Porter managed the conference’s media relations responsibilities and served as the communications liaison to regional and national media outlets, as well as the institutions Sports Information and University Relations’ offices. She had oversight of the conference’s external communications and was the primary contact for football and men’s basketball.  Also, she serves as the supervisor of the Director of Multimedia/Marketing Coordinator and Assistant Director of Media Relations. 

In addition, she works directly with the conference’s corporate partners and assists with creating and executing sponsorship and promotional opportunities for the MEAC.  

Prior to joining the MEAC, Porter served as the Director of Communications for Southwest Basketball, LLC.  Southwest Basketball was integral in the current growth and development of the NBA D-League in its pursuit to become the NBA’s first true Farm System.
