Lee H. Beecher, MD is an advocate for patient education, collaborative patient care, and market-driven health care insurance reform. He practices adult and adolescent psychiatry in Saint Louis Park, MN. Lee is also president of the MN charitable nonprofit health care policy think tank, Minnesota Physician-Patient Alliance (MPPA)

Doctor Beecher is an adjunct professor of psychiatry at the University of Minnesota. Psychiatrists are physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders. Diagnostic workups for mental disorders should rule out other medical conditions and include physical exams, and may include laboratory tests and brain imaging such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scans. Patients see psychiatrists for depression, anxiety, bipolar mood disorders, schizophrenia and/or to diagnose and treat complex cases involving medical conditions, medication interactions, and substance abuse and addictions. Psychiatrists often prescribe medications – usually in conjunction with psychotherapy – and they often work in collaboration with primary care physicians, internists, neurologists, psychologists, social workers, and chemical dependency counselors.
