Education has developed throughout American history, from the passing of the first compulsory education laws in Massachusetts in 1852 to modern day choices that range from public education to online courses, with several options in between. It is a parent’s responsibility to determine which choice will most adequately meet their child’s needs. Although many parents enroll their children in the public education system for twelve plus years, they can contribute much to this acquisition of information and formation of ideas. The preservation of family memories and traditions is a vital element of this learning process.

Becky Van Vleet is a retired teacher, principal, and former home school mom. Becky is the author of the children’s picture book, Talitha, the Traveling Skirt, and has recently started a blog. Her theme emphasizes how important it is to connect from one generation to the next, especially through creating and preserving memories.

Join us Tuesday, October 22nd at 8:00 a.m. MDT or on archive as Becky shares her experiences in the educational system and her recommendations to parents to help them explore the best learning environment for their children. Becky also discusses Talitha, The Traveling Skirt, the family history behind the story and what children can learn from this engaging and enchanting book.
