The upcoming U.S. national election has dominated the world stage for months. Some have already cast their votes through early voting, and during next week, millions will mail in their ballots or go to the polls. We as voters have the responsibility to make decisions about much more than which presidential ticket we support. The choices we make about our candidates running for local positions can sometimes impact our lives much more directly.

Bent County Commissioner candidate Jean Sykes will shed light on some of the mysteries of the political scene. What motivates a person to run for office?
