Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and that unlocks the fullness of life. It can protect us from the illusion of materialism, that “more is more”, or that things can bring us contentment. It turns denial into acceptance, and longing into peace. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. It opens us up to a world of contentment.
In the Bible, the phrase “my cup runneth over,” is followed by, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever." It is saying, I have everything I need, I am taken care of, surely I am in God’s care, I am walking with God.
A spiritual practice of gratitude creates the sense of fullness through which we can give freely to others. That is why gratitude and extending love go hand in hand. You cannot give freely from an attitude of lack, but you can give freely from an attitude of abundance. If you are looking to positively contribute to the lives of others in your daily life, then begin your practice with gratitude. Free mini readings also available
