1. Dying to the law is assigned just as much importance by Paul as
dying to sin. Rom 6 is on dying to sin. Rom 7 covers dying to the law.
2. We die to the law thru our participation with Christ in His death
and resurrection. Gal 2:19.
3. Reasons why we need to die to law:
A. We need the life of God to live for God. Although the law
promises to give its adherents life (Lev 18:5), it actually kills them.
Rom 7:10. The law is a ministry of death and condemnation. 2 Cor
3:6-9. Only the Spirit of Christ can give one Life. The Spirit of
Life in Christ Jesus has delivered us from The Mosaic Law of sin and
death. Rom 8:2. Proponents of the law (Modern day Judaizers) deceive
people into believing that human effort to keep rules will bring life
and sanctification to its adherents. Gal 3:21. Without God's life in
us we cannot live for God. Jesus came to bring us life. Jn 10:10.
The law kills and does not give us life. Paul said those who wanted
to return to the law after initial salvation were "foolish", "stupid"
and "idiots" and had been bewitched by an evil magic spell. Gal 3:1-3.
B. The law does not suppress sin. It has the opposite effect.
It stirs up and arouses the sinful nature and causes sin and sins to
increase in the life of the believer. Rom 5:20; 7:7-24 especially 7:5; 1 Cor 15:56.
