Hybrid Jazz - One Hour of Music/No 2nd Hour (Technical Difficulties Via BTR)

Our guest is a Chicago native who grew up PASSIONATELY in love with music. 70's, 80's, one-hit wonders, Elton John, Motown and Philly Soul. Somewhere along the way, he fell in love with the infusion of R & B with Jazz instrumentals - much of what came to be known as Smooth Jazz. Heightened by a visit to the second Catalina Jazz Trax Festival in 1988. Two years or so after graduating from UCLA with a Bachelor's in English. 

The event producer at Catalina loved that Jonathan and his friend Dan Margules were so INTO Contemporary Jazz - however they were defining it at that time. Art Good offered them both a chance to write for his "Jazz Trax" publication. Now, it folded before they could get their feet entirely wet - but two friends certainly found their way in a BIG way. Jonathan will tell you what Dan's doing - let's make sure you know what JONATHAN has done. 

He delved more into the music scene in Los Angeles. Finding a gig for "L.A. Jazz Scene", Jonathan's budding reputation soared by writing features and album reviews. He created "Night Rhythms" - a column lasting until 1995.  He also began a long-standing collaboration with the influential "Jazziz" magazine. With the many networking opportunities that surrounded him, Jonathan became a FIRST CALL Public Relations writer. Every genre. Film. Bios for major stars and ones that wanted to be. Interviews too numerous to mention. 

As well: an author of multiple books - a 100% cat lover - a journeyman hungry for spiritual pursuits. I can't be objective :) Join us on 9/29. You will learn a LOT.
