The Old Farmers' Almanac, which first began publishing the names for the full moons in the 1930s, states that some southern Native American tribes referred to the full Moon in March as the "Worm Moon" because earthworms were thought to appear around this time as the ground thawed from winter, according to NASA. The worm moon comes around every March, but the 2023 worm moon has special significance, says Narayana Montúfar, senior astrologer for Astrology.com and author of "Moon Signs: Unlock Your Inner Luminary Power."
