Mitigation is practical preparation against disaster. Last Saturday, May 5th, 2012 the National Park Service, The Shasta County Fire Safe Council, the local Ham radio operators, and this Re-building America with Ken Swanson came together to distribute firewood to the public. Citizens bought a day permit for $20.00 and loaded their trucks and trailers in a grab & go feild day. There were more than 100 cord of seasoned knobcone pine cut and stacked in the parking lot and along the roadway to the Whiskeycreek Picnic area along the shores of Whiskeytown Lake just minutes west of Redding CA. This firewood was gathered by the Forest Service and was the remnant of the horiffic wildfire of 2008. Reduction of forest fuels and proper land management in regards to the brand new 'Cohesive Strategy' means there is a larger program going on here. The Feds realize the job is too large. Therefore they are reaching out for colaboration. Which is part of the communications of THIS broadcast. The community coming together to mitigate catastophic wildfire.
