Handle Business: The Art of Life 101

I love being able to host this show becuase it affords me with the opportunity to meet with some phenomenal women and men, too. This weeks guest is another phenomenal woman doing great and marvelous things! Join me and my special guest, author, educator and motivational speaker, Dr. Erika F. Emery.

Dr. Emery is a is a dedicated wife and mother of two sons. She is also an author, an educator, and a motivational speaker who is dedicated to developing literature that inspires others to thrive. Her books promote personal enlightenment, financial planning, and career advancement.

Her published works include a supplemental textbook called Pathways: The Art of Life and an autobiography called Redbone Diaries. Her first book, Pathways: The Art of Life, is designed to help students prepare for life beyond high school. Her second book, Redbone Diaries, is a nonfiction book that utilizes history and music to highlight strategies used to overcome life’s obstacles.

Dr. Emery has been educating and mentoring young people in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 26 years. She leads by example by sharing her own struggles and successes as a young mom, as a student, and as a businesswoman. For example, having her first child at 16 years old did not prevent her from earning a doctoral degree or becoming successful in her career.

Her educational journey includes earning a B.A. in Human Development, a M.S. in Education with an Early Childhood Option, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership for Social Justice. Although the journey was difficult, her “handle business first” mentality motivated her to remain steadfast. Once she became a teacher, she utilized the term “handle business” to motivate students to follow their own path to succeed in life, regardless of the challenges they may face.
