Throughout history people have predicted several events to end the world. My favorite is Douglas Adams' dinner theater in the "Restaurant at the End of the Universe". Beings travel through time to view the end of the Universe and everything while drinking and dining in an "envelope" of the time space continuum. The Universe ends every evening at 5 PM.
The Mayans did a phenomenal job mapping time and space unlike our society who looks at time in a linear fashion. The alignment of the Earth, Sun, and the Frozen Star (black hole) at the center of our galaxy is real. However, we are not very good at keeping mechanical time so it's impossible to predict.
