War of the Worlds was originall performed on Halloween for October 30, 1938, and was directed and narrated by actor Orson Wells.
The first 2/3 of the broadcast were presented as a series of simulated news bulletins which suggested that an actual Alien Invation was in progress. War of the worlds aired without commercial breaks, adding to the realism. Widespread panic ensued.
In the days following the broadcast, the panic and outrage continued by listeners who believed the events in the broadcast were true.
Despite public outcry, War of the Worlds secured Orson Wells fame.
