Understand that Jesus paid the price for our sins with His shed blood; so once we confess our sins we are no longer guilty. He paid the price for shame as well. We no longer have to pay for our sins or live in bondage of what we had done. Paul tells us that, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 8:1). If you don’t learn to press on, you’ll always be trapped in your past mistakes, shame and guilt of yesterday. Those images that we see of our past are a constant reminder of what we use to do or what we use to be, but once we’re healed those images are gone forever!  I know.  It’s not easy, but we need to break away from the mental images, words and scars that come from our past. It will take work and you will need to make a conscious effort.  It will be a long and hard journey, but it’s one that you need to take in order to free your mind, soul and spirit.  The mind is the seat of your emotions and where the damage is done.  This is why Paul tells us that we need to “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 2:5) There are many people today who live in a perpetual state of mental hell and depression, refusing to move from the point of their abuse regardless how long ago it took place.
