My name is John Volpe and I am a naturalist, self-taught, and I am also a taxidermist and somewhat of an artist. I walk the native way to the best of my ability.

What I try to do is learn as much as I can from nature because those are our teachers. Especially turtles. For some reason they seem to be strong with me. So I am constantly trying to help them to be able to survive. Whether it's the water, or whatever is going on with the turtles.

Just off to my left is where the federal agent and I came out and he crawled into the sweat lodge. First he took pictures within the sweat lodge. I told him that was wrong and you can't do that, and he said it just didn't matter. And then he took out his knife and I tried to talk to him out of cutting down the feathers. He said he was going to cut them down. 

The way I look at turtles, and what's been taught to me, is that with Native American prophecy, one of the biggest animals that we watch is actually turtles. Because whatever is going on with the turtles, you can bet that next year is going to happen to the people. And that's exactly what's been happening.
