The Catholic Church led a very public call for action in light of the elimination of a federal exemption allowing religious institutions to opt out of the law requiring employers to cover contraceptive services in their health insurance packages. After days of heated debate, the Obama administration backed down and changed their stance by insisting insurance companies take responsibility for providing free birth control to employees of religious groups.
