Volunteers of America Chesapeake, a nonprofit that provides support services to the elderly and to people who are homeless, mentally ill or recovering from addiction, among other needs, was named a CIO 100 winner in 2011 for implementing a cloud computing solution for its 600 employee, 26-program organization.
VOA was one of the few nonprofits to embrace cloud computing for back-office processes. As such, its cloud efforts resulted in an expected savings of $30,000 to $50,000 per month.
