About Kaolin

I will never forget the day I would meet Kaolin. Many years ago I had the pleasure of taking her college course at UMASS Amherst. Kaolin dared to ask the risky questions related to race and class. I was offended and angry at her stance of questioning race and class until I discovered she had her own plight of hostile challenges by the choice to be in a bi-racial relationship. Time would reveal that my inner wounding from internalized beliefs about beauty, race and class would come to the forefront. She was a teacher who was not afraid to bring the questions of race to the forefront and encouraged us to dig deeper. Her book Talking About Race: A Workbook About White People Fostering Racial Equality in Their Lives, is a reflection of the authentic nature and character that Kaolin possesses. Her boldness in telling the truth from her lived experiences is one that we all can learn from.  Every student and teacher should have this book as part of their reading list !
