Host Paul Booth interviews Director Lysa Heslov about her film Served like a Girl (this was Heslov's Directorial Debut).
SERVED LIKE A GIRL, Lysa Heslov’s debut feature-documentary, which profiles a group of brave women, all military veterans, who compete for the title of Ms. Veteran America. The competition’s proceeds all go to benefit homeless women veterans, whose numbers, currently at 55,000, are growing in this country. The film follows seven women, in particular – Andrea, Denyse, Hope, Jas, Marissa, Nichole and Rachel - each of whom has her own story to tell as they transition from soldier to civilian.
Currently women veterans are the fastest-growing population of homeless veterans in the U.S. Many of them are single mothers with dependent children.
