Internal affairs complaints filed against police officers rose by 86 percent in 2018, a jump that officials and activists say is part of the ripple effect of the FBI’s ongoing case against crooked city cops.
The number of complaints against city cops reached 258 in 2018, up from 139 in the previous year, according to the annual report for the Police Department’s Internal Affairs (IA) division. Citizens filed 179 of those complaints last year, compared with 115 in 2017, the report said.
