Listen to the Sat. June 11, 2022 edition of the Pan-African Journal: Worldwide Radio Broadcast hosted by Abayomi Azikiwe, editor of the Pan-African News Wire. In this episode we continue our focus on Black Music Month. In the PANW segment we look at the ongoing war in Ukraine and how it has fueled inflation in the United States and throughout the capitalist world; the Sudan Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) has held a press conference to discuss the proceedings of a meeting which was held with the miltary regime; an attempted coup in the North African state of Libya has worsened the already precarious security situation; and in Morocco a musical ensemble has raised questions surrounding gender and national culture. In the second and third hours we will feature historical discussions on African music in the U.S. and around the world. We examine the origins of the Blues, Jazz and Soul music over the last century. There is a tribute to Chester Arthur Burnett, popularly known as Howlin Wolf, and a rare archival interview with Billie Holiday.
