Minnesota Alliance of Black School Educators to be featured on BlogTalkRadio’s ON POINT!

Thought it would be good to talk to a national organization who has a local affiliate here in Minneapolis about the challenges, politics and outcomes of public school children of color. Joining us on Saturday will be the president of the Minnesota Alliance of Black School Educators John H. Saulsberry Ed.S from the Saint Mary’s University Twin Cities campus along with board members, Hattie Bond, Minneapolis Public Schools, Dianne Thomas, Principal – Osseo Junior High School; and local author Mary T. Whitney. The Minnesota Alliance of Black School Educators has sat in the background observing the current disparities in education in Minnesota. In December 2010 the organization filed Articles of Incorporation to be recognized as a non-profit organization in the state of Minnesota. MABSE’s long-time board member and organizer Hattie Bonds says, “We as an organization along with the community are responsible to put education for children of color back on track. We are the clinicians who have the educational backgrounds and understand the process for success for ALL children in the classroom – not just in Minnesota, but all over the United States.” MABSE’s mission is to promote and facilitate the education of Black students; and establish a coalition of Black educators and others directly or indirectly involved in the educational process; To create a forum for the exchange of ideas and strategies to improve educational opportunities for Blacks specifically in Minnesota and possibly taking a successful model to areas in the United States where the Achievement Gaps are ongoing and similar to gaps that affect Minnesota; To ensure that all Black students are provided opportunities, which will ensure them a full measure of academic skills, cultural and social awareness so they may participate fully in the economic, political, technological and social processes.
