Hosted by Orlando Willis. The health and safety officer must ensure that safety training occurs in the fire department, both during recruit training and annually thereafter. He or she is also responsible (through the instructor) for safety during training operations. OSHA requires annual safety training. in the uses of respiratory protection, hazardous waste operations and emergency response (HAZWOPER), infection control, confined space, protective clothing and equipment, and fire fighting operations (Title 29 CFR, Part 1910.120). The health and safety officer may provide instruction or determine that the training is completed and properly documented. Should a fatality, serious injury, or near miss occur, safety training needs to be conducted to address the incidence and recommendations made to prevent the incident from repeating?
