The 2013 North Shore Writers Festival is on April 19th and 20th in North Vancouver, British Columbia. Heidi Schiller, Cathy Scrimshaw and Karen Bower join Sonia Haynes in a rousing discussion on the ins and outs of setting up a writers festival, what to expect and the rewards of embarking on such a venture.

Heidi Schiller is a Readers’ Services and Customer Engagement Librarian at the North Vancouver City Library. Before receiving her master’s degree in Library Studies from UBC, she worked as a print news reporter in Bellingham, Wash. As part of her position at NVCL, she organizes the library’s Local Author Series, The North Shore Writers Festival and heads up the Community Engagement Team. In her spare time, she volunteers as a board member of the Real Vancouver Writers’ Series and can often be found playing Cards Against Humanity at the Storm Crow Tavern in East Vancouver. Visit The NS Writers Association's website for up to date information on our association.

Cathy Scrimshaw, past president of the North Shore Writers Association, at one time toyed with the idea of becoming a librarian. Her professional life took quite a different turn, but now that she is of an age when she has the freedom to indulge her long-dormant desires, she has volunteered to liaison between the North Shore libraries and the NSWA. The panel event, "So You're Finally Published!! Now What??" at Saturday morning's North Shore Writers Festival is one result.
