Filmmakers Phil Falcone & John De Meo – Co Producers of "Joe’s War"

Next up on my Filmmakers Series is Phil Falcone and John De Meo, who co-produced and wrote the film Joe’s War. The movie also marks the directing debut of Falcone. Premiered at the Garden State Film Festival, Joe’s War is the compelling story of Joe Caruso, a young Marine who attempts to return to his previous life upon returning home from the War on Terror. Watch the trailer here. The movie vividly depicts the daily struggles of facing up to and dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and the devastating effects on family and friends. Upon his return home, now former Marine Sergeant Caruso attempts to seamlessly fall back into his routine with the help of his family and friends, all the while coping with his life changing overseas battle. Joe continues on a downward spiral, and in an attempt to regain control of his life, he enlists the help of some new friends and the aid of a therapist played by Armand Assante. Joe's War presents a realistic view of life with PTSD, and the film has many scenes that are difficult to watch. PTSD isn’t exclusive to the military; individuals with other mental illnesses are at higher risk, and women are twice as likely to develop PTSD than men. Approx 55% of US military personnel returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan seek health care services from the VA. In 2013, the VA spent about $600 million for PSTD treatment.
