Tune in to my Radio Show, Anita Talks Genealogy on July 1st, from 7:00 - 8:00 pm (pst). The Topic is Virginia's Revolutionary War Brothers, and I will be speaking on my ancestors and other soldiers of Color. I have two direct ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War, Charles Lewis was a Seamen and a Soldier (fought in the Battle of Camden), and Rawley Pinn was a Soldier, who fought at the Siege of Yorktown. History is silent on the Battle of Camden, which was a losing Battle. Yet it set the stage for the British Defeat at Yorktown. Charles and Ambrose Lewis were brothers who fought at The Battle of Camden, and Ambrose was severally injured. He was bayoneted clean through and shot nine times, and still survived. The British took him prisoner on board a prison ship, which may be why he survived. Ambrose lived well into his eighties probably sharing tales of his war days with his children and grandchildren. Rawley Pinn was born in Indian town Lancaster County, to Robert and Margaret Pinn. He served an apprenticeship before leaving the area and settling in Amherst County. He was part of the Militia that left Amherst County and joined the unit headed by Marquis De Lafayette. They joined George Washington's forces in Yorktown, were the Battle against the British was being waged. It is an eerie coincidence that one of my ancestors was fighting in a losing battle (The Battle of Camden), while another was participating in the defining Battle of the War (The Siege of Yorktown). We have a Toll Free Call in Number, 1-877-516-6887. Link to Show.
