From the Archives of: KSVR NAMAPAHH revised/rebroadcast 09 6-21-09 Fathers Day tribute w/ Robin Carneen & Connie Allen This is a special holiday show featuring music from the NW & other parts of Indian country to honor fathers, grandfathers, others who fill in as father figures and some that are incarcerated like political prisoner Leonard Peltier. We will also be remembering our own fathers who have passed on & acknowledge those who never knew their fathers or had little contact. The Parenting Public Service announcements, with the exception of the “Lightening Safety “ & the “Fireworks Safety”, were provided by KWSO radio out of Warm Springs, Oregon: http://www.kwso.org/ Next week is National Lightning Safety Awareness Week. There is a lot of information about lightning and lightning safety on the Awareness Week web site at http://www.lightningsafety.noaa.gov/ . “Lightening Safety “ “Is lightening an issue in western Washington? Absolutely! Since our area does not get many thunderstorms when compared to many other parts of the country, citizens are not very 'lightening proficient'. Hence, we tend to get more lightning 'incidents' here per capita than other areas in the country. Here is a stat - we average one lightning fatality in Washington every 5 years and several lightening injuries each year. Did you know that? I'll bet your listeners don't either. So have fun with this lightning safety material and it will help educate our community too! Thanks! Ted Buehner Warning Coordination Meteorologist National Weather Service - Seattle/Tacoma weather.gov/seattle/ “Fireworks Safety” This was a special PSA made by the Tulalip Youth Multi- Media Club last year. Special thanks to the Marysville Fire Department for working on this with us- we couldn’t have done it without them & all their sage advice & sound effects!
