Tonight's special guest, Larry Fike (M. Phil.) from Joshua Tree, CA, describes himself as a philosophical counselor and says, "excellence is normal." The author of "Piker" and two other books, Mr Fike explains, "Medical doctors are trained to focus on the care of the body. Clerics, on the care of the soul." He goes on, "Philosophers, on the care of the mind. Which is most important is disputable, as all things are. But it is the vocation of the philosopher, as thinker, to consider all parts of what it is to be human, since the judgments arrived at in the other two domains depend upon the ideas that are accepted, rejected, or left in abeyance. Ideas are the domain in which the philosopher lives and gives." The goal of Larry's philosophical counseling services is not to provide assistance to those who have drug addictions, need medication, or struggle with medical mental health issues. Rather, it is to assist those who may be struggling with rationally-based issues that don't strike clients as having a clear solution. For example, those who may be struggling over whether or not to pursue a certain career, whether or not to wed, or whether or not to relocate - among many similar issues - are all welcome.
