When most of think or hear of Haiti, we remember that fatal day of January 12, 2010 and the calamitous consequences of the events which occurred. But how many of us can visualize a Haiti of empowering beauty, stretches of white sand tickling through our toes, a Haiti with a flavor of rich aromas amalgamating of African and French cuisines, a Haiti of tangerine sunsets painting the skies? This dichotomy of a paradise in the process of being rebuilt and reconstructed lies very close to our doorstep. The people of Haiti have undergone not just the loss of their entire livelihood, but also the drastic implications of how to start from over and start living again. I invited one of my favorite people back on our show, Alex Cottin, Regional Director for Merlin USA, to discuss some of the work that Merlin continues to execute in providing medical relief for so many Haitians who continue to struggle through a plethora of hurdles. Alex and I discuss providing shelters which is still a challenge, how Merlin is providing mobile clinics around the island as well as how this is affording essential healthcare for civilians not able to reach hospitals in the more populated cities. Take a look.
