Jack Johnson held what was probably the single most prestigious place in sports: he was heavyweight champion of the world, the first black man ever to wear the crown. At a time when blacks were downtrodden, helpless, invisible, Johnson was conspicuous, powerful, gloriously and defiantly himself. Black people must wake up to their own Power to take the day!!
