Sheryl Patteson learned of BetterInvesting in 2007, at a time when she needed something to divert her attention during non-working hours. She attended a Stock Selection class taught by a chapter director. After three meetings, was asked to be a dues-paying member.  Three months later, a majority of the club’s members decided to disband the club and her contribution turned into her first investment loss.  She stayed with the chapter but didn’t join another investment club until the chapter decided to take a virtual club to the next level and become one of the early working model clubs (2008).  She also  attended the BetterInvesting National Conference in Schaumburg, Chicago, IL.

As she took on higher positions both within the chapter and the model club, it advanced her ability to find possible stock ideas and understanding of the Stock Selection Guide tool.  She then felt confident enough to start a family portfolio and become bolder with her thrift savings retirement accounts.  In 2017, she retired after 35 years with the US Navy and joined a second investment club with 3 other chapter directors.  Then she co-taught the spring and fall SSG classes, made club visits and initiated the chapter Go-to-Meetings and Webinars.  She is working with her son to eventually take over her portfolios and hope to get her granddaughters initiated once they get older (they are currently three and one).
