Accepted into a combined six year accelerated college/medical school program at Albany Medical College, Dr. Kurian completed her surgical training at Albany Medical Center where she began to develop her interest in obesity management. After residency, Dr. Kurian finished an advanced laparascopic fellowship at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. Dr. Kurian has educated other surgeons in New York City and throughout the country in minimally invasive surgical techniques and continues to be involved in surgeon education. Dr. Kurian has performed nearly two thousand weight loss surgery procedures since starting her practice in New York in 2000 and she has presented articles and given lectures worldwide as well as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). She is also a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, and the Association of Women Surgeons.
