Jazz'em Up host Cres O'Neal chats with three-time Grammy-winning diva—and UN Ambassador for the Food and Agriculture Organization—Dee Dee Bridgewater about her appearance at the 2011 Luanda International Jazz Festival in the Angolan capital city of Luanda. "The people who came to this three-day event are the upper eschelon, so their response was wonderful, considering that jazz is a foreign music to them. It's probably like world music is to us. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to share my tradition with the people. I actually cried when I was leaving the festival because the young people were just so warm. And if you know anything about all the civil strife the country has endured for 30 years—just to see them with love in their hearts and being so kind and caring. It moved me so. These are children who are reaching out, and they have hope that their lives are going to be different than their parents' and grandparents' lives."
