The recent terrorist attacks in Paris demanded a strong response. John Kerry brought a pop singer. Seriously. After snubbing the civilized world by not showing up to the unity rally in Paris, the Obama administration decided to make an act of contrition to the French by having James Taylor sing "You've Got a Friend" to them.
