Latinos are blessed to have many actively engaged citizens, young and old, quietly and persistently working to better our community. Each Monday, I will interview a person who have had a positive impact on the community and have not been recognized for their work. These Latino/a figures have deep involvement in their town and whose leadership and service have had a beneficial impact on town life. They also think outside the box in their approach to solving social problems, work hard to make a difference, inspire others and do not call attention to themselves except as a way to garner attention for their causes. Beyond the sirens, the flicker of the flame, the roar of the engine and hiss of the mic, Latino/a unsung heroes/heroines are real people with hopes and dreams. Some are even volunteers who don't get a penny that willing give up their social lives to lend a helping hand to those in need. They are faceless men and women who are there to help and expect no recognition.
