This week the scientists of CERN in Geneva, Switzerland announced their preliminary results have shown they have discovered the Higgs Boson. This project was funded mostly by the nations of the EU, the US did contribute to CERN, though.

The United States has fallen behind in high energy physics since the failure to fund the Superconducting Super Collider in Texas back in 1993. Does it matter, if we fall behind?
