According to public reports, former Hunterdon County New Jersey prosecutor alleged he suffered retaliation after the Attorney General squashed an indictment against the county sheriff.

   Former Prosecutor Bennett A. Barlyn was fired months after an indictment against Sheriff Deborah Trout was presented to a grand jury.  Former prosecutor Barlyn alleges he was retaliated against for objecting to the state’s direction of the case.  According to a published report in the New York Times, four grand jurors the newspaper interviewed described the case as deeply persuasive - and some were even angry about the dropped indictment, the report states.
