True Profiler: Pat Brown Discusses The Rodney Alcala Case

Rodney Alcala, who is better known as The Dating Game Killer for being one of three bachelors on the popular show in the 1970s - Alcala actually won the date - had already killed two people at the time of his television appearance. Alcala really liked strangling. One of his victims, Jill Barcomb was strangled three times over; once with a belt, then with her pantyhose, and, once more with her pant leg. Rodney Alcala is a sexual sadist who liked controlling his victims, watching them suffer and suffocate, and he would strangle them until they passed out, then revive them, just to do it again and keep the fun going. Finally, when he had killed them, he would pose them and take pictures of them. Unlike a anger retaliatory serial killer, a sexual sadist takes his time so he can stretch out his enjoyment. Sexual sadists are more comfortable using ruses, more confident that they can control their victim for an extended period of time.
